Pacifica needs a positive change. The issues we have are not new, and our current board has had ample opportunity to responsibly action solutions. They have instead been complacent. And they have been on the board for a long time. Laverne Villalobos and Elizabeth Bredall have been in place since 2014, the other two have been in place since their appointment in 2019.
Our schools need strong leaders who see the big picture and make difficult decisions in a timely manner. We need guardians of the funds our district has, to prevent waste and make wise choices on where to spend it. We need a school district board that engages parents and the taxpayers in a meaningful way, with a goal to collaborate, communicate, and bring confidence in their leadership.
We need our Pacifica School Board to put children and teachers first.
With the upcoming statewide election on June 2nd, 2026, we have a chance to recall the Pacifica School Board without incurring high fees*.
*Costs may still be incurred, but less than cost of a special election. Additionally, the board is placing a 2nd Parcel Tax on the upcoming election ballot and costs may be defrayed from economy of scale.
NO! The recall vote will likely be placed on the next statewide election ballot on June 2nd, 2026, which is not a special election. It will cost money to participate, but it is less than the quoted special election quotes that were provided to the board. Costs for adding the recall to the ballot on June 2nd will be provided to the superintendent. We have asked her for the amount and it will be added here once we hear back from her. As of 8/17/25 we have not been given a response on the actual cost provided by the elections office.
*The Pacifica School District alone chooses when to place the board recall on the ballot, and could decide to do so in March as a Special Election. If this is done, it could cost the district a ton of money, but it will be at the choice of the Pacifia School District to do so. A special election usually draws less voters, which could be advantageous to incumbents in a recall position, and for them, worth the expense.
The school board’s job is to ensure our district and schools are well-run and that the superintendent - their hire - is held accountable. When the district fails, the board is ultimately responsible.
The change needs to come at the board level.
PSD Board Policy 0000 clearly states that the board sets the vision and goals, and the superintendent's role is to execute them.
The entire Pacifica School Board was clear in their approval of superintendent Dr. Darnise Williams and the work she did, at their request.
Our Pacifica School District deserves better.
Laverne Villalobos and Elizabeth Bredall were elected in 2014. The remaining members were appointed in 2019 and ran unopposed, automatically getting the seat. They run for 4-year terms. There are no term limits.
Let's bring leadership to the Pacifica School District. Recall the PSD Board.
No. The cabinet and interim superintendent and key staff remain in place. We need a fresh and clean start of the Pacifica School Board to gain trust of the teachers, both unions, and the entire community of Pacifica, including parents and taxpayers.
Pacifica cannot afford any more time with the existing board in place. Let's bring change to Pacifica School District.
5,197 signatures are required. However, to be safe, we aim to get 6,000 signatures of registered Pacifica Voters.

The Pacifica School Board determines whether to place the recall vote on a normal statewide election (June 2nd, 2026) or pay additional costs for a special election (March 6th, 2026).
Once the names are on the ballot, the recall needs 55% of votes to pass.
The recall effort cannot endorse or discuss candidates. Running candidates will be announcing their campaign when they are ready.
For regularly scheduled elections (June election)
The candidacy filing period opens 113 days before election day, and closes 88 days before election day.
If there is no incumbent running, the deadline is extended 5 days.
The Pacifica School Board is required to announce their intent to run 120 days prior to the election.
If you are interested in running in the upcoming election, you can call the San Mateo County of Elections, or click here for more information. You can also call the Pacifica School District and inquire on board member responsibilities and benefits.
The Pacifica School Board is paid a small stipend, and the same medical benefits all district employees receive - which is full payment for a basic family plan, amounting to approximately $27,000 annually for healthcare.
We know that something had to be done to get the district out of a deficit. The reconfiguration just magnified existing issues with the current school board, including allowing the district to get to a point of a budget crisis that such a drastic cut had to be made.
A recall effort would have happened regardless. This just gives us more to talk about.
The Recall PSD Board Committee FPPC #1478770
The Pacifica School District Board of Trustees has repeatedly failed our community and students by disregarding transparency, inclusiveness, and sound decision-making. Their rushed and flawed “reconfiguration” process excluded meaningful parent input, ignored student well-being, and violated best practices and laws that safeguard public trust.
Their decisions dismantle unique K-8 models, despite substantial evidence of its academic and social-emotional benefits and almost half of Pacifica families attending.
The Board’s neglect of fiscal responsibility is alarming, as demonstrated by incomlete analyses of reconfiguration impacts, wasted public funds on recent campus improvements, and misleading financial projections. This recklessness jeopardizes educational equity and alienates the community.
Alarmingly, the board has marginalized parent voices, shutting down dissent, failing to address public records requests, and conducting critical decisions in closed sessions, potentially violating the Brown Act. Their behavior has fostered mistrust, driven families out of the district, and undermined our children’s emotional well-being.
We need leaders who will act with integrity, transparency, and respect. The Pacifica School District Board of Trustees has failed to uphold these values, and their decisions will continue to harm our students and community. It is time for accountability and leadership that truly serves the best interests of our children.
