Our school board shapes the future of Pacifica’s students, teachers, and families. It also impacts our home values because a desirable school district means homes retain value and demand higher prices. Our property tax is also affected. When leadership loses focus, we all pay the price through delayed projects, wasted funds, and lost trust.
Over the past several years, our board’s actions have raised serious concerns about leadership, transparency, and fiscal responsibility. The community deserves open, competent, and respectful governance.
1️⃣ Lack of Transparency
Key decisions happen with limited public input or incomplete information. Community questions often go unanswered, and district documents are hard to find or inconsistent.
2️⃣ Operating in Crisis Mode
The board routinely acts only after problems grow too large to ignore instead of through thoughtful planning. This “reactive” style leads to rushed decisions and wasted taxpayer dollars.
3️⃣ Fiscal Irresponsibility
Millions have been spent on consultants and delayed projects - like Workforce Housing and construction on schools that they knew they were closing - with little to show. Promises made years ago remain unfulfilled, while costs keep rising.
4️⃣ Lack of Leadership, Accountability and Engagement
Instead of setting a clear vision and guiding the superintendent, the board often blames circumstance. When challenges arise, there’s more finger-pointing than problem-solving, which leads to nowhere. Additionally, tax payers are not included in communications.
5️⃣ Disrespectful Behavior
Public meetings should model civility and collaboration. Instead, we’ve seen dismissive, rude, and arrogant conduct from board members toward parents. That kind of behavior drives good people away from participating.
Transparency in decision-making
Professionalism and respect toward the public
Accountability for how funds are spent
Leadership that listens, plans, and delivers
These are basic expectations for anyone trusted with public office.
Stay informed: Attend or watch board meetings.
Ask questions: Don’t accept vague answers.
Share facts: Post respectfully on social media, link to district documents, and encourage discussion.
Get involved! Many people don’t even know the school district actions affect EVERYONE in the community. Help spread the word.
Change shouldn’t require a recall. But when leadership refuses to listen, community action becomes the only way forward.
Together, we can restore accountability, respect, and transparency to Pacifica’s schools — for our students, our teachers, and our future.
