Public school board governing trustees are expected to LEAD with integrity, transparency, and accountability. Communities expect their board to be engaged, informed, and take action.
The Pacifica School Board has failed to meet these basic expectations.
The Pacifica School Board ignored a shrinking budget for years until it became a crisis. That led to a rushed reconfiguration that disrupted families districtwide and resulted in 21+ teacher layoffs.
Worse, as the budget problems deepened, the board never discussed them openly with the community or during public meetings.
The board's employee, the superintendent, opted to move forward on construction of an entire wing at a school they knew would be vacated, WASTING OVER $5 MILLION DOLLARS in taxpayer bond money.
This pattern of inaction with key members of our board is reflected in continued delays in other key decisions for OVER 10 YEARS.
Workforce Housing was approved way back in 2013, and it is only now getting underway - 12 years later and they are behind schedule.
Time and time again, adequate community engagement has not been established leading to concerns with lack of transparency.
No Transparency. No Engagement. No Accountability. No Leadership
Wasted bond spending, broken trust, and reactive decision do not put children first.
Let's make positive change in the Pacifica School Board.

Parents and community members have asked for transparency for years - yet the board consistently fails to communicate clearly or transparantly. Major decisions are made quietly in small committees, with little to no public discussion at monthly board meetings. Most recently, as budget issues mounted and school reconfigurations were on the table, the board did nothing to ensure that these district issues were made public!
The silence is not accidental - it is strategic. And the ones most impacted are our students, our teachers, and our schools. Which ultimately affect the entire community of Pacifica. No real discussion takes place. No Transparency. Which means they get away with No Accountability.
Pacifica deserves better. We need simple, open dialogue.
We are done asking. No more surprises. It’s time for positive change. Join us to Recall the Pacifica School Board. Laverne Villalobos Pacifica Elizabeth Bredall Lynda Brocchini Kai Dogget Kai Nicole
The district’s budget problems didn’t appear overnight - it was building for years. But the Pacifica School Board sat on their hands, and kicked the can down the road with ineffective actions, letting the financial issues build until they were in crisis and at risk of state takeover.
Back in December, 2024, they said all was fine and they certified the MULTI-YEAR budget as positive.
Just a few weeks later in January, 2025, the Pacifica School Board claimed state takeover was imminent.
This was a fear tactic they leveraged to rush through a resolution to reconfigure schools.
This impacted four schools, cut two highly rated K-8 programs, and resulted in laying off 21 teachers. Raises promised to the remaining teachers never came, causing the unions to speak up.
THIS IS NOT LEADERSHIP - it was a last-ditch move by a tired, checked-out board. They created a panic to build support for reactive decisions they hadn’t had the courage or foresight to manage years earlier.
Teachers and students deserve better. Pacifica deserves effective solutions. We can't afford not to make a positive change for Pacifica. Recall the Pacifica School Board.
The Pacifica School District wasted over $5 million in bond funds to build a new wing at a campus they vacated just days after construction finished. Internal emails show even the Bond Oversight Manager warned the project should be redirected before construction started. The district pushed forward anyway.
Now, with empty campuses collecting dust, the district wants to borrow $7 million - not for classrooms, not for students - but to build themselves a brand new district office. Is this fiscally responsible?
This is what wasteful spending looks like. The Board continues to make these choices, and the taxpaying community and the students pay the price. It’s time to hold them accountable.
Below email sent 3/19/24 to the superintendent by the bond manager. Pacifica School District emails and communications are available to the public upon request. At the time of this email, the grounds were prepped, but the building constructon did not start until June 2024. Additionally, this shows there were discussions about closing closing the school in 2024, almost a full 2 yars before the actual community at large received the announcement. This is unacceptable.
"The Ocean Shore School Building D Addition Site Work Package project broke ground. Portion of the hill is being removed to make space for the D wing addition that will happen summer of 2024, which includes 2 new permanent classrooms that are currently housed in portables. The site work includes: sitework demolition, site grading, new retaining wall, new aluminum and chain link fences and gates, new storm drainage, re-route existing underground telephone conduit, irrigation modification of affected areas."
The actual construction work on the building started in the summer of 2024, 3 months AFTER the email from Sisi Meng, and was completed after June 6th, 2025. This work would better serve the students and taxpayers had it been re-routed to another school, like Sunset Ridge or IBL, who will be seeing an increase in students.
The District quietly announced a recent $70 million Bond Measure G community meeting through ParentSquare, a platform limited ONLY to families with currently enrolled students. At the meeting, attendees discussed which projects would receive improvements and took an informal vote - yet the broader Pacifica community, whose tax dollars fund the bond, was never notified or invited to participate.
The district made no effort to communicate the meeting - not even using free tools like digital platforms, local news, or a flyer on their own office door. Despite these no-cost options, they blamed the lack of outreach on budget constraints. They said they rely on parents to tell their neighbors.
This is a deliberate choice to exclude the public. It is in this meeting where they brought up a $7 Million dollar district office rebuild. Is this where you want your tax dollars to go?
Further, the district stopped updating their website information tracking spending from the bonds in 2022.
How is this acceptable?
This school board has allowed spending plans to advance without proper community engagement. This is a clear failure to respect the taxpayers they claim to serve. Join us to Recall the PSD Board and bring positive change to Pacifica.
